Plenty of time is allowed to gather information from new patients.

If you are a new patient, for your comfort and safety and to ensure there is no confusion on the day of your appointment, please READ the following information carefully. If possible, please download and read carefully the forms on the right, complete and sign where shown and bring along to your first treatment.

  • Please ensure you arrive in time for your treatment and where possible, avoid rushing afterwards.
  • For cancellations, please provide at least 24 hours notice of cancellation by calling the practice on (01837) 241888 (North Tawton practice) or (01392) 927299 (Exeter practice). Please do not cancel by email if you are cancelling within 24 hours of your appointment. Advance notice of cancellation allows us to extend treatment to others in need, otherwise regrettably, the full treatment fee will be charged.
  • Please let us know if you have any disabilities or special needs before your appointment
  • Please turn your mobile phone onto ‘airplane’ mode or switch it off completely. We prefer not to be absorbing the microwave radiation whilst working with your subtle energies!
  • Please remember to bring along all your medication/supplementation information at your first visit. Better still, please complete the New Patient Intake Form from the downloads section.
  • It is a good idea to have had something to eat before your treatment – a snack or light meal within two hours of treatment is ideal. Please avoid eating a heavy meal just before your treatment. If you are diabetic or have specialist dietary needs requiring you to eat just before your treatment please mention this before treatment.
  • Avoid drinking coffee before your treatment (it affects the pulse-diagnosis) and avoid alcohol on the day of treatment.
  • You may feel tired, slightly drowsy or dizzy after treatment, so please take care if you are driving afterwards.
  • If you plan reimbursement for treatment through your insurance company, please ensure your policy provides the correct level of complementary healthcare entitlement. We are happy to provide invoices/receipts for your treatments, however, without prior arrangement, payment should be made by you on the day of your acupuncture treatment and you will need to arrange for reimbursement from your insurance company.

  • Regarding your health, please use your common sense. Acupuncture can be very helpful for a very wide spectrum of acute and chronic health issues but is not a replacement for medical attention.

    If you have acute, worrying symptoms, or are unsure about whether you have a serious health issue, in the first instance please contact your GP or for 24-7/365 days a year advice dial 111 (the NHS non-emergency number). You will be asked a series of questions to assess your symptoms and will be immediately directed  to the appropriate medical care.
